Departmental correspondence of the Archivist of Ontario (RG 17-11)

Series consists of correspondence created and maintained by the Archivist of Ontario with the departments to which the Archives of Ontario reported for administrative purposes including the Provincial Treasurer (1903-1935), Education (1935-1959), Travel and Publicity (1959-1963) and Tourism and Information (1963-1972). Records include letters and memoranda pertaining to the Archives of Ontario's operations and its placement within the Government of Ontario, as well as its relationship with, and the operations of, the supervising departments. The series also contains correspondence between the Archivist of Ontario and outside organizations regarding the Archives of Ontario's operations as well as correspondence between the Archivist of Ontario and the Minister of Tourism and Information regarding records management within the Government of Ontario. Several records document the correspondence of Alexander Fraser, Archivist of Ontario, with government and school officials pertaining to his work as Chair of a special committee created in 1933 to supervise the relocation of the collections of the Provincial Museum, as well as copies of Orders-in-Council on the same subject.
